چکیده

The alterations in succinic dehydrogenase activity during the course of infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains H37Rv and BCG, as well as with dead bacilli, has been described. A tissue factor has been described which is prepared from normal bovine kidney and will restore enzyme activity in vitro. This factor is prepared by chromatographic analysis and contains a nucleotide with an ultraviolet absorption maxima at 250 mmicro (pH 3) and a free sulfhydryl group. The role of this factor in the response to tuberculosis is discussed.

Effect of Infection with M. Tuberculosis and of Tuberculin Shock on the Succinic Dehydrogenase Activity of Guinea Pig Tissues

The kidney of guinea pigs infected with the H37Rv and BCG strains of M. tuberculosis showed a diminution in succinic dehydrogenase activity when measured by the tetrazolium technique. This effect was also seen in the liver and spleen of animals infected with the BCG strain. Sensitized animals showed similar results when given tuberculin in sublethal doses. The succinic oxidase was also low in t...

Urinary Excretion of Pyruvic Acid, a-Ketoglutaric Acid, and Oxaloacetic Acid in Scurvy

Scurvy is associated with abnormal carbohydrate metabolism and diminished production of insulin (1). Banerjee et al. (2) observed increased accumulation of citrate, malate, and lactate in the tissues of scorbutic guinea pigs. This was possibly due to the insulin insufficiency associated with scurvy since prolonged injection of insulin to scorbutic guinea pigs diminished the tissue concentration...

EFFECT OF ACTIVE MOLLUSCICIDAL COMPONENETS OF ABRUS PRECATORIUS, ARGEMONE MEXICANA AND NERIUM INDICUM ON CERTAIN ENZYMES IN THE NERVOUS TISSUE OF LYMNAEA ACUMINATA

In vivo and in vitro sublethal exposure of abrin, glycyrrhizin (active component of Abrus precatorius seed and root), sanguinarine, protopine (Argemone mexicana seed) and oleandrin (Nerium indicum leaf) inhibited the acetylcholinesterase, lactic dehydrogenase, acid and alkaline phosphatase activity in the nervous tissue of Lymnaea acuminata. The succinic dehydrogenase activity in the nervous ti...

Metabolism in Infection: Study on the Enzymatic Damage in Kidney of Guinea Pig Infected with Mycobacterium Tuberculosis

Malic dehydrogenase activity of the kidney homogenate from the normal and the tuberculous guinea pigs has been estimated. A defect in the electron transport chain has been detected at the level of flavoprotein-diaphorase system. A significantly high DPNase activity of kidney homogenate has also been found in the infected group. Niacin and phenazine methochloride could correct both the defects a...
